PROOF READING

It is imperative that your manuscript is read by a proof reader who will check for grammatical errors, typographical errors and spelling and punctuation errors. Running the spell check on your computer will not pick up words that are correct but misused in the context of a sentence, for example the use of 'your' when it should in fact be 'you're.'

COPY EDITING

This goes a step further and a copy editor may need to rewrite sentences if they are badly composed or do not convey the intended meaning. The editor may also kick back sections to the author for rewriting.
